Shirakatsy Students Delve into Armenian Modernism with a Focus on Arthur Tarkhanyan

On November 20, 2023, students at Shirakatsy International Educational Complex presented their work on “Modernism in Armenia” as part of their Culture Studies class. This project was part of the 12th-grade curriculum, which includes an in-depth study of Armenian architecture.
Students had the opportunity to explore the work of many Armenian architects but chose to focus on the projects of Arthur Tarkhanyan. To deepen their understanding, they visited the Arthur Tarkhanyan Cultural Center, where the center’s founder and director, Anahit Tarkhanyan, provided detailed insights into Armenian Modernism and showcased some of its most iconic works, many of which unfortunately only exist in drawings today.
Anahit Tarkhanyan, along with 11th-grade art students, the coordinator of the gifted and talented program, Arusyak Arzumanyan, the head of the art department, Yulianna Mkrtchyan, and other teachers, attended the open class. The class was conducted by Zaruhi Parunakyan, a teacher of culture studies and architecture.
